The purpose of Technical Standards 2000/2 issued under Section 17 Part V of the Telecommunications Act, 1999. It is to ensure that persons who install and maintain customer premises equipment, which is connected to a public switched telephone network (PSTN), are competent to do so. TECHNICAL STANDARDS 2000/1 (Customer Premises Equipment Approval & Markings):

The purpose of Technical Standards 2000/1are as follows:

1. to protect the integrity of telecommunications systems;
2. to protect the health or safety of any person;
3. to ensure the inter operability of telecommunications systems and customer premises equipment; and
4. to assist in achieving the Telecommunications Sector Policy.

Technical Standards is issued under Section 15 Part V of the Telecommunications Act, 1999.
