A Very Small Aperture Terminal is a relatively small satellite antenna, typically 1.5 to 4 meters in diameter used for satellite-based, point-to-point or point-to-multipoint data communications. VSAT licences are issued to applicants wanting to use the system for direct connectivity to the Internet backbone as an alternative to using other domestic Other Licence Operators (OLO s) as upstream providers. Large companies also use the licenced system to provide point-to-point data communications within a Closed User Group configuration. Licensees are not allowed to have the system connected for access to the Public Domain via a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or a Public Switched Data Network (PSDN) or any other means for the purpose of providing voice . The annual licence fee for a VSAT terminal is $500. Application forms can be viewed or downloaded below:
