To learn more about each of the key members of the PUC, please see their biographies below: Anthony RolleChairman As Chairman of the PUC, he is committed to the continued development and progress of the commission, encouraging a high standard of work ethics and quality service. In 1992, Mr. Rolle was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of The Prime Minister and became Co-Chairman of the Hurricane Relief Committee following the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew. In 1995, Mr. Rolle was appointed Minister of State with responsibility for Health Services in the Ministry of Health and Environment where he played a significant role in the creation of Public Hospitals Authority. From 1997 to 2000, he served as Minister of State for Public Works with responsibility for The Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation, Bahamas Electricity Corporation and Water and Sewerage Corporation. Also in 2000, Mr. Rolle was a consultant to the government on e-commerce. Apart from his impressive career in government, Mr. Rolle is recipient of several awards, including fellowship in Life Insurance Management from the Life Office Management Association of the United States (1980). A former President and Regional Vice-President at British American Insurance, he currently serves on the board of British American. Mr. Rolle holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami and a diploma in Electrical Engineering from Portsmouth College of Advanced Technology, Hampshire, England. Mr. Rolle is married to the former Elva Russell. They have three children: Tracey, Gemma and Andrew. A.C. "Tony" AllenMemberAnthony Allen is Managing Director of Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited. In July 1977 he was transferred to St. Lucia as Manager, Castries Branch with responsibility for two (2) additional Branches in St. Lucia. He returned to the Bahamas in September 1979 as Deputy Manager of Scotiabank Nassau Branch. In 1983, Mr. Allen assumed a further overseas assignment as Area Manager of Scotiabank, Barbados, which position was subsequently expanded to include supervision of the Bank s Eastern Caribbean Branch Network comprising Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Dominica and St. Kitts. He returned to the Bahamas in September 1989 as Vice-President, Bahamas and Manager, Nassau Branch and is presently Managing Director of Scotiabank (Bahamas) Ltd., the locally incorporated Scotiabank Branch Network. Mr. Allen was a member of the West Indian Commission February 1991 Workshop on Regional Currency Arrangements and Strengthening Financial Institutions in the Caribbean . In 1998, on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Bahamian Independence, Mr. Allen was recognized by the Government for Outstanding Contribution to National Development in the area of Banking and awarded the Silver Jubilee Medal. Mr. Allen served on the Board of Bahamasair, the National Flag Carrier seven (7) years from 1992 to 1999 and served as Deputy Chairman for five (5) of those years. Mr, Allen is married to the former Beverley Gibbs and they have two daughters, Tawanna C. Kassim and Toni Chris Allen. Michael SymonetteMember Prior to becoming CEO of the company, Mr. Symonette was head of the technical divisions, and had overall responsibility for the planning, engineering and maintenance of all telecommunications systems. He worked with Intel’s engineers on the planning and engineering of the first Standard ‘A’ Satellite Earth Station for The Bahamas. He also worked with AT&T on the planning of the Bahamas-11 Digital Submarine Cable System between The Bahamas and Florida. Mr. Symonette’s experience also include the planning and engineering of analog and digital telephone exchanges, tropospheric scatter and digital microwave radio systems, analog and digital cellular systems. He was also involved in the planning of the Bahamas Domestic Submarine Fibre Cable System currently being implemented by the Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited. Mr. Symonette is a graduate of the South Hall College of Technology and holds the diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He also pursued several management courses and holds diplomas from the University of Miami, Harvard University, and the National University of Singapore. He is a member and Past Vice President of the Bahamas Institution of Professional Engineers. Charles GibsonMember At the Corporation, Mr. Gibson advanced through the ranks of a Technical Officer, charged with responsibility of the installation and maintenance of PABX and Norstar telephones systems; Senior Manager, with responsibility for the Subscriber Apparatus Department and Assistant General Manager, with responsibility for Customer Services. As Deputy General Manager, he had responsibility for Customer Service and Marketing. While at BTC, he was also responsible for the computerization of the Bahamas Telephone Directory. From June 1999 to January 2003, he was the President of the Communication Network Company, which he operated in partnership. Today, he is a self-employed businessman in the real estate field. His qualifications include a Full Technological Certificate from City and Guilds of London Institute (January 1985), an Associate of Arts degree in Electronics from the College of The Bahamas, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Florida International University in Miami (August 1985). Over the years, he has studied many courses and attended many conferences relative to the field of communications, including Advanced Industrial Relations; General and Advanced Management Development Programme and Project Management. Mr. Gibson is a Vestry Member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church and serves as the Chairman of the Trinity Christian School. He is a trained Labour Conciliator and also holds the position of Vice President of the Interfaith Credit Union. He is widowed and is the father of three children, Dwayne, Dion and Charlisa. Canon BainMember Canon Bain earned a Master of Divinity degree from The University of Western Ontario, a Bachelor of Theology from Huron College, the diploma in Theology and Licentiante in Theology from Codrington Theological College and a Teacher’s Certificate from The Bahamas Teachers College. Canon Bain and his wife Ann have two children – daughters Sharry and Shannelle. |
